“HYPERCUBE”

A theatrical lighting console performed the crossing fade of the lights on a continuous loop. 2009

All these lighting fixtures form a sculpture in itself while their true function is to makeup the “HYPERCUBE”. A viewer was able to walk under the fixtures of the installation. In addition I illuminated the sculpture.

By using the conventions of lighting I generated three-dimensional surfaces. A viewer's perception is thus confounded. Do the eyes tell the brain what it sees or does the brain instruct the eyes? This sculpture is created by three theatrical lights forming a triangle focused on the floor. The floor around the triangle is painted black and the triangular area under the floor is painted white. The white painted under the triangle enhances the 2D illuminated object. The lighting fixtures inherently contain framing shutters that permit us to shape the lights into three sections that makeup the triangle.

When the lights are colored in theatrical gels red, blue, and green the primary colors of light. By the nature of the lights crossing each other secondary colors are mixed creating amber, cyan , and magenta. 24" x 14"
